About the Author
Gail Z. Martin discovered her passion for SF, fantasy and ghost stories in elementary school. The first story she wrote - at age five - was about a vampire. Her favorite TV show as a preschooler was Dark Shadows. At age 14 she decided to become a writer. She enjoys attending SF/Fantasy conventions, Renaissance fairs and living history sites. She is married and has three children, a Himalayan cat and a golden retriever.

Another terrific installment.....

....Please say this isn't the last we'll here about this amazing cast of characters. The book is the conclusion to the Fallen Kings Cycle. It's also the sixth book following the adventures and challenges of Tris Drayke, Kiara Sharsequin, Jonmarc and Carina Vahanian, and the rest of the amazing cast characters; but I'm still wanting more. Ms. Martin has created a fantastic world in the Winter Kingdoms. I like the pacing - not bogged down with too many details (enough to keep me wanting more) and not just a series of action-movie scenes. I liked this installment a lot, but was completely absorbed by the Jonmarc Vahanian and the vampires (vayash moru) subplots. I thought Tris had it too easy with all the amazing powers, while Jonmarc relied on skill and brains. Just my $0.02... Anyway, I would highly recommend this engaging, quick reads to anyone who loves fantasy/adventure series!

Good writing. Calms me down.

I love this kind of stuff. If you enjoy nicely written fantasy with enjoyable characters, easily followed plot, gosh! What's not to love.
Only 4 stars because you should not confuse this with great writing or wonder if this is a new classic novel that will be studied for the ages.
But----if you love this kind of easy reading, pleasant writing, good story, empathetic characters, ... All that I, frankly, need then buy this short little series. I love this writer. When she publishes again, I shall buy it.
The writing is good. I recommend this writer and her stories without reservation. You will relax and enjoy.

Gail Martin has always been a favorite author of mine

Gail Martin has always been a favorite author of mine. Her medieval tinged stories of war, love and wizardry are easy to read, packed with action and suspense and "The Dread" is no different. Along with it's sister book "The Sworn", Martin paints a masterpiece rife with heroes, vampires, werewolves, sorcerers fighting unconscious evil counterparts in a "war of unmaking" woven into a tapestry of rapt imagination. An excellent read for all!
